How It All Started
I was introduced to the world of user experience design by chance in the coffee room of a large pharmaceutical company. I was an intern in the Client Services department going through a young career crisis of whether or not majoring in Information Technology was for me. It turned out to be the right choice even though UX doesn't really fall under IT. How else would I have bumped into the company's UX Designer in the coffee room who wound up asking me to help her out with a project? After that, I spent the rest of my semester assisting with user research on Rutgers.edu. I’ve worked at a consulting company for intranets. I was a UX team of one at a health care company that supports caregivers. I worked on a larger team at a telecommunications company where we launched kids’ watches and 5G internet service. Currently I’m at a health care company working on digital services in their pharmacy sector.
Outside of Work
In my spare time, I like to hike, make custom cards and gifts, learn how to illustrate, prototype board games, and hang out with my husband, our son, and our husky. I used to ballroom dance for a couple of years. I enjoyed tango, rumba, salsa, and bachata and grew an appreciation for waltz. (I am no pro and still dance off beat from time to time.)
My favorite organization tool is Airtable. I’ve used it to plan my wedding, events, and vacation.
What Others Say About Me
"Working with Avegail was one of the most delightful experiences I have had. She is extremely bright, knowledgable and she is a very talented designer. Avegail is able to think on her feet and complete numerous tasks in very little time. I was always impressed with her design skills and her ability to really connect with users. Avegail's passion for people complimented her passion for design very well as she was able to get to know the end user in order to design a product that was intuitive, fun, and truly met their needs. Avegail and I took a business trip together where we conducted in-person user research. The professional script she created paired with her admirable way with people allowed us to capture pertinent information that we were able to bring back to our team. On top of being a very skilled designer, Avegail is a true professional. To top it all off, she has a wonderful personality which made working with her even better. I would love to work with Avegail again in the future.."
Brianna Watson, Product Support Consultant, Seniorlink
"Avegail is in a word....AWESOME! I worked with her during my time at Brightstarr Consulting, and during that time any and everything I needed from her, whether it was intro training on the Brightstarr process of consulting, or design artifacts for a project, Avegail lended her hand in incredible fashion. Highly detailed oriented and proficient with UX Design tools, such as Axure, she was often available to jump on projects and provide assistance whenever called upon. I highly recommend Avegail - she would be a GREAT addition to any UX Design Team."
Antoinette Houston, Senior Lead UX Consultant, BrightStarr
"Avegail has been exemplary as my user experience design assistant; without her, there would be no usability design and research occurring in Rutgers' University Relations. She is thorough in her research, working effectively from both the big picture standpoint and the detail-oriented standpoint. She is a problem solver who always brings ideas to the table and executes. She has a good eye for visual and interaction design, and she relates well to people. Avegail would be a valuable asset to any team."
Jessica Walker, Web Developer and User Experience Researcher
"Avegail Tizon demonstrated her leadership and passion for making a difference in students' lives when she stepped up and assumed the Presidency of Delta Epsilon Iota, an academic honor society with a mission in career development activities, when the role was suddenly vacated. She planned and executed a large scale event -- the new member induction and reception, for hundreds of students and guests. She oversaw details including logistics and key note speaker arrangements. She coordinated volunteers and delegated tasks effectively. Avegail spoke eloquently in her remarks on the importance of being engaged as a student leader during her presentation to the group. She inspired and motivated a team of executive board members to work towards their goals and mission to help students prepare for careers beyond their time at Rutgers. I have had the fortune of working closely with Avegail as the group's chapter advisor, and applaud her drive, direction, and organization to help make DEI a highly regarded student group on our campus."
Janet Jones, Chapter Advisor, University Career Services, Rutgers
"I had the honor of working with Avegail in Delta Epsilon Iota - Academic Honor Society. She was the President and I was the Vice President of our chapter. She truly does demonstrate the organization's main principles of Dedication, Enthusiasm, and Initiative.
She inspired me to continue as President after she graduated. While serving on the e-board and taking the same courses, I have come to know her as a very organized and talented individual. I wish her the best luck on her future endeavors."
